Proud to offer this stunning example the 1953 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn. The Silver Dawn was a Post War model newly introduced by Rolls Royce in 1949. The model was the first step back into the Luxury Market by RR post war. A shared body-design with Bentley Mark VI.   The Silver Dawn was engineered and designed to capture both the lucrative North American Market along with the Owner-driven Rolls Royce. With many of the only 761 built offered from the factory in Left Hand Drive, with exceptional road manners and ample power this example was and is delightful to run and maneuver on todays roads

This stunning example landed in North America in Early 1953. Sold new in the Sunny South by Taylor Motors in Florida. Purchased new by Mrs Mc Kelvy,, the Silver Dawn made its way between Florida and New York City over many years,, not unlike many Wealthy Aristocrats, Actors and High rollers of the day. The latest and long term owner acquired the car in 2005. Mr and Mrs. D. became instantly smitten with their new to them Rolls Royce. After much methodical research and  seek and search mission they found just the right example. They welcomed ‘Lady Gwendolyn’ into their small but well loved Stable. Over the next 15 plus years ‘Gwen’ as she was loving referred to brought much enjoyment to her new caretakers. Mr.D. with his  precision engineered mind and hands set out to mechanically maintain, service and ‘tweak’ the Silver Dawn to allow for comfortable worry free travels. After speaking with this proud caretaker, it is clear that pride of ownership was only part of the passion, while maintaining and servicing this beauty brought equal amount of enjoyment. With many many notes taken and logged the service history and idiosyncrasies of this gorgeous 53 Silver Dawn affectionately know as ‘Gwen’ are noted within the original owners manual, service records and drivers logs, and numerous files created that join the car today. The outcome being a well sorted example that has exceptional road manners of what would be expected of a Post War Rolls Royce. With well over 10,000 miles logged endless memories of country drives, Sunday Picnics, Club Sanctioned shows Tours and Caravans, “Gwendolyn’s” caretakers felt its time to pass the torch to a New Steward who can continue to enjoy the Beauty and Precision of this Stunning Rolls Royce.

This example is finished in a beautiful Livery of Claret Burgundy over Sand Beige, an outstanding show quality finish with exceptional shine and depth, a colour combination that only enhances the already opulent look of the beautiful sweeping body design of this Post War Rolls Royce. Excellent Brite work throughout with a combination of triple plate Show Quality Chrome as found on the Bumpers both front and rear and some all original chrome as found on the exterior door handles. The most obvious and identifiable on the Rolls Royce is her Pantheon or front Grill along with its perch the ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ the ‘Flying Lady’  found in excellent condition, and equally as recognized RR emblem. Along with the grill the front end boasts beautiful large Chrome Plated clear driving or “Fog Lamps’ that certainly help make the presentation. Within the sweeping front fenders are  beautifully integrated  bullet head lights with sealed beam headlights wrapped on beautiful chromed bezels and fender integrated signal/marker lights. This example has the addition of a number of interesting original Driving Club badges finished in Porcelain and Cloisonné, these include Rolls Royce Owners Club, Unique RR club meets and a significant 1953 Coronation Badge recognizing Queen Elizabeth II. Equipped with the factory original wheels along with correct and original Wheel discs with center plated octagon cap with RR insignia, wheels are finished in two tone livery to match the overall exterior wrapped in correct Firestone Wide White Walls. Other unique interior features include the Bud Vases with Silk Roses , Rope bound interior Pulls,  back lite Vanity mirrors and a rear window privacy blind  operated remotely from the drivers area, retaining the original Silk blind.

Under the bonnet of this Iconic British example is the iron clad Rolls Royce engineered and built inline 6 Cylinder. This ‘later’ model Silver Dawn starting in 1953 where referred to as the ‘Big Boot’ & ‘Big Bore’ design, these cars received the larger six with 4,566 cc displacement or known as the 4.6 litre with the high compression head and overhead valves, a smoother more powerful configuration. There where only 481 examples in total that sported the 1953 and Later bigger power plant. Equal to the scarcity of the model its that this example is equipped with the Automatic Transmission, a four speed that is actually a North American supplied General Motors trans the often used the bullet proof Hydra-Matic.  This Rolls is an always ‘easy start’ smooth idling strong running example. Mechanically this car has seen constant service and general maintenance along with much detailed preventive service and maintaining. The result is a great running driving example that has taken the last long term owner ‘over the road’ with worry free driving over 10,000 miles with great satisfaction. Today an excellent running driving and handling example that is as comfortable on the show field as it is at the local Cruise in as it is on a windy country road or the long distance caravan on the open Freeway. The engine bay shows very well and fairly correct to original, clean presentation and includes many original features including Emergency ‘Torch’ or flashlight, along with firewall mounted brass oilers. This example is also equipped with the unique Girling -Bijur Self lubricating System. The cavernous trunk  is found in excellent condition with carpeted stow away area and retains a correct spare wheel and tire, along with original jack wheel, wrench and proper wheel disc center cap tool.

The Silver dawn still features many of its original and unique components including the full tool kit, this is found in the interior of the car in a dedicated shelf on passenger side under the dash behind a Burled walnut hatch door and under lock and key. The tool kit retains is complete wit a number of the original tolls and accessories. Below the tool kit is another dedicated location foe the original Hard Cover Silver Dawn Handbook ( owners manual) precise to Left Hand Drive Vehicles.
